EZ-Backup TSM v5.3.2.1 Macintosh OS X Upgrade Instructions
This document assumes that the computer is already subscribed to the
EZ-Backup service. Its Node Name and Password will be required to
complete the installation. If this computer is not yet registered,
please go to the EZ-Backup Home
Page to subscribe.
This procedure is for upgrading to TSM v5.3.2.1
on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher.
To install the EZ-Backup TSM software on a Macintosh OS X system
(you will need to be logged into an account with administrative
priviledges and know the administrative password):
- Please review the README at README_enu.htm.
Note that this is now an HTML page rather than a simple text page)
- If you are upgrading from version 5.1.5 and earlier, you will
need to remove the scheduler from the "Login Items":
- Go to Apple Menu->System Preferences...->System/Accounts
- For each account:
- Highlight the account name
- Click on "Login Items"
- Highlight the "TSM Mac X Scheduler Daemon" and click on the
"-" below the startup items window
- Close the System Preferences window
- Copy the "TSM Installer" file to your local harddrive:
- If you are using the web browser Safari:
- mount the disk image (TSMInstaller.dmg) by clicking on ftp://ezbdist.cit.cornell.edu/pub/mac/5.3.2.1/TSMInstaller_FIX1.dmg
- drag and drop the icon to the desktop or other convenient
place.
- If you are using the web browser Firefox:
- click on ftp://ezbdist.cit.cornell.edu/pub/mac/5.3.2.1/TSMInstaller_FIX1.dmg
and a dialogue box will open asking you what to do with the file.
- highlight the radio button next to "Save to disk" and save
it to the desktop or other convenient location.
- Unmount the disk image (TSMInstaller.dmg) by either dragging it
to the trash or clicking on the "eject" arrow next to its icon.
- Double-click on the "TSM Installer"; you will be prompted for
the administrative password.
- Click "Continue"; a "README" comes up.
- Click "Continue" again, then click "Install". TSM should begin
installation.
- When installation is complete, click "Quit".
PLEASE NOTE: There has
been a change in the way the new TSM client reads directory paths. TSM
now uses the Unix method of slashes (/) to delimit the directories
instead of colons (:). If you have customized any options in a previous
version of the client, such as the include/exclude options, you MUST rename the TSM User and
System Preferences files (found in /Library/Preferences/Tivoli Storage
Manager) before configuring the software. You can then open these files
in a text editor as references when you customize the new client. If
you miss this step, you will get an "Option Error" when you try to
start the "TSM Client Configuration Assistant", with an opportunity to
comment out the offending lines.
After the TSM software is installed, continue with these steps to
configure the software.
- Double-click on "TSM Backup for Administrators" to open the
EZ-Backup software; enter the administrative password when prompted.
- The "TSM Client Configuration Assistant" should appear with
the first box ("Help me configure the TSM Backup Archive Client")
checked. (If not, go to "Utilities-->Setup Assistant...".) Click
"OK".
- Make sure the radio button for "Update options for all users"
is highlighted. Click the right arrow.
- "TSM server name" should be ADSMX.CIT.CORNELL.EDU
where X is the number of the server your node was assigned
when you first subscribed to EZ-Backup. If it's not, click "New Server"
and enter the proper name in the box.
Click "OK", then click the right arrow.
- TCP/IP "Server Address" should be filled in with the same
server name as above (if not, type in the same server name as in step
4). Make sure the port number is the one you were assigned when you
first subscribed to EZ-Backup. Click the right arrow.
- A dialogue box may pop up: "ANS1394E The node name contains
periods. Would you like to remove them? Select "no" if this is an
existing node." Click "No", regardless.
- "TSM node name to use" should already be filled in with your
nodename. (This is the Name that was indicated on the EZ-Backup
subscription form.)
If not, type it in. Click the right arrow.
- In the next window, you will see a default list of EXCLUDE
files recommended by TSM. You may wish to follow the recommendations
unless you have specific files and/or directories you wish to exclude.
You can enter these later in the "Preferences..." file. Click the right
arrow.
- Next, you'll see a list of file types you may wish to
exclude. Cmd-click on those types you don't want
backed up. Click right arrow and follow the same procedure for the next
window. Click right arrow.
- Click on "Finish".
- Back up under the "Utilities" pull-down menu, select "Setup
Assistant...".
- Under "Which components would you like to configure", the
second box ("help me configure the TSM Client Acceptor Daemon...")
should be checked.
- Click "OK".
- Make sure the radio button next to "Update a previously
installed scheduler" is highlighted. Click the right arrow.
- In the next window, next to "Schedule Log", click
"Select...". Click box next to "Prune old entries" and set "Keep pruned
entries..." to 7, or an appropriate number, days. Click "OK"; click
"OK" again.
- Click "Finish". You may be prompted to login again; do so.
- Implement IBM work-around (see this
FAQ for more information on the nature of the problem): update the
Client Acceptor Daemon startup script
- Copy the "DSMCFIX" installer to your local harddrive:
- If you are using the web browser Safari:
- mount the disk image (TSMInstaller.dmg) by clicking on ftp://ezbdist.cit.cornell.edu/pub/mac/5.3.2.1/dsmcfix.dmg
- drag and drop the FixDSMCAD icon to the desktop or
other convenient
place.
- If you are using the web browser Firefox:
- click on ftp://ezbdist.cit.cornell.edu/pub/mac/5.3.2.1/dsmcfix.dmg
and a dialogue box will open asking you what to do with the file.
- highlight the radio button next to "Save to disk" and
save
it to the desktop or other convenient location.
- Unmount the disk image (dsmcfix.dmg) by either dragging it
to the trash or clicking on the "eject" arrow next to its icon.
- Double-click on the "FixDSMCAD" icon.
- When prompted, enter your administrative password
- The "FixDSMCAD" pane appears, with a description of the fix;
click on "Install"
- The installer will install the corrected version of the
dmscad startup script, and put up a message "Installation was
succesful..."
- Click "Quit" to exit the installer
- Quit TSM Backup and restart the machine.
- Automatic backups depend on the following:
- The machine must be powered on,
- The machine must be connected to the network,
- The machine must be set to "wake up ": Apple Menu-System
Preferences...-Energy Saver-Options, "Wake for Ethernet network
administrator access".
- The "TSM Installer" and the "DSMCFIX" may be deleted.
More information on using EZ-Backup:
- There are some issues you should be aware of which may effect
your backups. Please take a moment to read the EZ-Backup Frequently Asked Questions
for this client.
- The "IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Macintosh: Backup-Archive
Client Installation and User's Guide", html version, was installed
along with the TSM software on your computer. Look for the "TSM HTML
Manual" file in the Tivoli Storage Manager folder. Double-click on this
file and it will open an Internet Explorer browser containing the
manual.
